January 26th: ELP's reflection and commitment to Indigenous understanding

January 26th, a day that carries different meanings for different individuals. As a team, we recognise the importance of acknowledging the diverse perspectives on this day and have chosen to approach it with sensitivity and understanding.

On Thursday 25th January our team participated in an education forum with our very own Troy Garling, Impact North Community Manager, who presented on the history, context, and future for Indigenous people in Australia. We used this session as a collective reflection on where we've come from and where we can go.

On Friday, January 26th, our team will not be working. We are mindful of the fact that January 26th can be a challenging day for many, and we want to respect the diversity of perspectives within our team and give space for personal reflection and exploration of their thoughts on this complex issue.

If you are based in Darwin, our Board Member Nicole Brown is co-hosting a saltwater ceremony at Lake Alexander, Fannie Bay at 5:30pm January 26th. This cultural event offers a unique opportunity to connect with Indigenous traditions and provides an alternative way to spend the day in a manner that is respectful and inclusive.

This year, let us not only reflect on our shared history but also actively work towards creating a future where diverse perspectives are respected and celebrated. By taking this approach, we hope to contribute to building a more understanding community. At ELP, we believe that when we invest in Indigenous entrepreneurs, they will in turn invest in their communities. When local leaders run businesses in remote communities it means more economic opportunity and employment, greater access to skills and knowledge, role models that inspire future generations and embedded community-driven change. Through enterprise, a dreamer becomes a leader. Learn more about the way we work.
